Welcome all to UC Santa Barbara Model United Nations SBI XVI!
I am a third year Model UN member as well as UCSB junior double-majoring in Political
Science and History of Public Policy and Law. I am from a city called Sun Valley located in the San Fernando Valley,
CA. I am excited to be taking on this position as Secretary-General, Model UN was the first
extracurricular I became involved in here at UCSB, since then I have participated in various
other activities such as the advancement in Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity from a member
to a cabinet member and now their External Vice President. I have additionally pursued a
consecutive internship with our Campus Sustainability department and now serve as a climate
ambassador.
My personal and academic interests are what has allowed me to grow further in this
organization and I have made some of my closest friends to date because of Model UN. I enjoy
political theory and have developed more recently an interest in immigration politics. In my free
time I adventure through the recreation center which is UCSB’s gym and I destress by finishing
off every exercise with a HIIT workout on the stairmaster. I am a strong advocate for self-care
and so I journal and love to spend time sun-bathing on grassy lawns. I hope that your
delegation's trip to UCSB is memorable and breathtaking, our committees have been especially
selected and curated to fit the diverse and intellectual taste of every delegate attending.
I believe that SBI XVI will be a conference to remember, from our beachfront views to
our incredible live music, UCSB and Isla Vista have so much to offer as a destination spot. Not
to mention your ability to compete in an intercollegiate conference at the same time! I look
forward to seeing you all this November.

Pranav is a second year Computer Science major with an interest in exploring the regulation and teaching of technology. Having also done MUN in high school, he joined UCSB’s MUN team during fall quarter of his freshman year. When he’s not studying, he enjoys reading, sketching around campus, binging The Rookie and coding random projects. He is excited to serve as the Director General and hopes all delegates have as much fun attending the conference as he did helping plan it.

Carter is a second-year student studying Economics, Statistics, and Data Science. Outside of committee, Carter enjoys anything outdoors related, from snowboarding to hiking to surfing to camping. Carter is excited for this SBIMUN and will be the Finance Director for the event.

Ali Yavuz is a rising senior in BS Mechanical Engineering with specializations in Fluid Mechanics and Geothermal Energy. He started MUN with Junior MUN in elementary school and has been doing it since then with breaks every now and then. He enjoy working out, playing basketball, and windsurfing. He plans to go to grad school and then work in NASA mission control. You can find him building robots or giving campus tours as a tour guide around the campus pretty often. He is excited to be your Director of Technology for SBI and can't wait to secure some great pics for the end of conference video!

Coming from Bozeman, Montana, Arli is a second-year Chemical Engineering major who also loves studying Chinese and German. Competing in MUN since high school, Arli loves supplementing their STEM-heavy education with historical crisis committees. Outside of MUN, Arli enjoys biking, hiking, cooking and eating anything that's spicy, and reading on the beach. Arli looks forward to an exciting conference, and can't wait to see all of the arcs y'all have planned.

Hasvita is a second year Applied Mathematics and Global Studies major from Valencia, California. She joined UCSB's Model UN without any prior experience this last winter and has loved every minute of it. In her free time she enjoys binging tv shows, finding cute drinks at new cafes, and driving. She’s excited to serve as your SBI USG of GA and Spec and hopes you will all enjoy SBI as much as she will preparing for it!

Aanuska is a third year Political Science student from Moorpark, California (yes, the stop on the Amtrak). She joined MUN during the fall of her first year and has loved the lively debate and awesome friendships she’s made along the way. Outside of MUN, you can catch Aanuska at the gym waiting for the Lat-Pulldown machine, photosynthesizing on campus, or at home binging another show. She is very excited for this committee as she is an AVID Pokémon enthusiast, her favorite Pokémon being Mudkip and Buizel!

Jacob Andrews is a second year political science major interested in pursuing a career in environmental law. In addition to Model UN, he’s a big baseball and football fan, and loves to watch games or play whenever possible. He also enjoys taking advantage of Santa Barbara’s beautiful location, be it kayaking, camping, or playing spikeball on the beach. He’s currently trying to learn to surf and ollie without any more head injuries but still won’t wear a helmet.
