Reporting Through History: The Press, the Presidency, and Power Inside the White House

The Press-idential Briefings committee is a style of Press Corps committee in which delegates take on the roles of journalists and media organizations covering the presidency from within the White House. Unlike traditional committees, delegates are not just tasked with investigating and reporting shaping public narratives, but must also function as members of the current administration to respond to timely issues. Each committee session is set in a different historical era of the White House, ranging from early administrations such as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, to modern presidencies like Franklin D. Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, and Barack Obama. In each era, delegates must adapt to the political climate, communication norms, and technological constraints of the time. Delegates will produce press briefings, news reports, investigative pieces, and answer questions during live questioning sessions.

Roman Galardi
Chair
Roman is a second-year Political Science and Economics double-major from Thousand Oaks, California on the Pre-Law track. He joined Model United Nations during the Winter quarter of freshman year and has enjoyed training, competing and spending time with his teammates. Outside of MUN, Roman is a part of the Speech & Debate team and loves watching baseball (Blue Jays), going to the beach and spending time with friends. He’s very excited for SBI this year and can’t wait to see what happens during the weekend.

Marcello is a fourth-year Political Science major from sunny Redondo Beach, California. This is his second year doing Model United Nations at UCSB; he joined in the fall of his sophomore year and has loved every part of it since. Outside of school and MUN, Marcello can be seen out at the gym, at the beach, or playing pick-up soccer. Marcello is also involved in the Army ROTC program at UCSB and plans to commission in the Army after graduating, with the intention of attending law school afterwards. He is absolutely thrilled and ready to be your chair for the White House Press Corps and is excited to see what solutions delegates come up with!
